This picture is a reproduction of Christ before the High Priest by Gerrit van Honthorst on 1617.Honthorst employs it to lend veracity and dramatic tension to a biblical story (Matthew 26:57-64). After his capture on the night of the Agony in the Garden, Jesus ?s taken for interrogation and trial before the High Priest Caiaphas, where two false whitnesses - the shifty-looking men behind Caiaphas- speak against him. But Jesus held his peace.Original picture can be shown on National Gallery, Great Britain.
